Uber shuttle service between Manhattan and LGA

The New York area has three airports, but getting there isn’t easy. It’s also not cheap if you rely on ride-sharing apps.

LaGuardia seems particularly close to Manhattan’s major travel hubs, but it takes two subways and a bus to get there. Uber and Lyft easily cost you $60 and maybe even $100. Yellow taxis can be a little cheaper.

But now Uber has added a new option that’s not quite a private ride, but it’s not public transportation either. The company is testing a new shuttle service between the Queens airport and Midtown. Trips run every half hour from three main travel hubs and cost just $9 through the end of the month.

The current promotion allows you to benefit from a 50% discount. Starting November 1, you will have to pay the regular price of $18 per trip.

If you want to take an Uber shuttle, you will need to do so at Grand Central Station, Penn Station, or Port Authority. At LGA, drop-offs and pick-ups are limited to terminals C and B. Shuttles run from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Customers can reserve a maximum of four seats up to five minutes before pickup and up to seven days in advance.

Uber has partnered with ETS Airport Shuttle Inc. to offer the service, which uses 14-passenger vans. Each rider may bring one personal item and one larger bag weighing up to 50 lbs.

While this option is cheaper than a typical Uber ride, it’s still quite limited to those traveling through these main hubs or living nearby. And it might still take 40-60 minutes one way, depending on traffic.
